Here are a few harder questions:
Have you tested yourself on how well  you know the rhythms in the music?
Can you dance comfortably to the Rhythm?
Can you dance the Melody?
Could you present the dance better?

We  can help with that too!

Dancers, become more familiar with the traditional middle-eastern interpretation and specific movements used  to represent the sounds of these  interesting and complex cultures.   Souhail
will provide educational information on the cultural dance, costuming, native artistry and traditional expression of Middle Eastern dance.   Dancers will learn how to identify and interpret the rhythm and melody portions  of their music to enhance their performances.

Artistry, Proficiency and Technique: Musicians will learn the necessary rhythms used in
Middle Eastern dance and how to play them on percussion instruments. Beginners to advanced students will learn rhythms and technique that lay the foundation of modern and classical Near East music. Enliven your performances. Polish your communication with dancers on stage.

Culture, History & Philosopy (Rhythm & Movement I):

Dancers and Musicians: Souhail will guide you throught the culture, regions, rhythms and history of the Raqs al Sharqi throught the Middle East.
Dancers will come away from his lecture with a better understanding of what clothing, music and customs are tied together
for a better representation of the dance, as a reflection of their culture.  This education can also help you to ask better questions
and understand why you get "those" reactions from your audiences.  The lecture will end with a question and answer period.
The philosopy section will  provide you with an amazingly clear way to improve your performance.  Souhail will guide you to
hear, identify and place the music on your body.  This will allow you to become the shape of the music.

Drumming Classes

Drumming Classes:  Students in class on Saturday will be entertained and educated by Souhail on the fundamentals of playing the Arabic tabla, riq and frame drum.  The class will teach the correct posture and instrument position, hand control techniques, foundational rhythms and timing.  Students in the Sunday class will continue to learn more advanced techniques, drills to improve speed and additional technical rhythms.  The second day of class will continue to build on the foundations to take your drumming to the next level.  Drummers will use what they learned in the previous days class to further refine their skills by focusing on advanced patterns, speed, timing and application of technical drumming skills.

Students are encouraged to attend both days.  Material will be presented to accomodate all skill levels.
